RIPPLE Featured Artist: Marissa Roche

Marissa Roche participated in our member art exhibition last year. Her piece was so captivating--and sold so successfully--that we asked her to be a part of our primary exhibit in 2010.

If you'd like to contribute a piece to this year's member art, please e-mail dcchapter@surfrider.org. Submissions are due June 12.

Marissa Roche draws inspiration from her “first-glance” reactions to the natural world. Her artwork captures those moments we’ve all experienced when, with reawakened senses, we’re suddenly awestruck by elements of the world around us -- the vast skies, the expansive oceans, the peculiar patterns on a leaf.

Elements of realism and an abstract presence inform Marissa's images to create an external expression of her deep appreciation for and connection to the natural world.

Marissa has a BA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland. She has had the pleasure of working with children as an Arts Educator for the past six years. She currently resides in Maryland.
The DC Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will be celebrating International Surfing Day by holding an art show fundraiser (Ripple: Art Affecting Oceans) at the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital in South East DC. It's a celebration of art and the ocean, featuring art, music, wine and beer, food, and a silent auction. Proceeds will go directly to Surfrider Foundation's DC Chapter to help keep our waters clean.
